Les Vendangeurs - Holiday Cottage situated close to Saint Emilion and Bordeaux   Holiday cottage with breakfasts provided and possibility of evening meals Our holiday cottage, Les Vendangeurs, is situated in the countryside of the Entre deux Mers close to Saint Emilion and only 40 minutes from Bordeaux. We are English and we have carefully chosen the location to be close to Bordeaux and the vineyards of Saint Emilion, Pomerol, Sauternes, the Entre deux Mers, the Medoc and Castillon. The cottage is a self-contained wing of our house which is also a bed and breakfast.  The cottage terrace flows into the terrace of the house but guests do tend to keep to their area unless invited to share an apperitif or similar.  Guests in the cottage can benefit from the sociablity of the bed and breakfast and our local knowledge or they can keep themselves to themselves with just a 'bonjour' to a neighbour. When requested, it is a great pleasure for us to help guests find routes and villages in the Gironde off the tourist trail. Cycles can be hired in Creon at the old railway station which is now a centre for the cycle track which follows a disused railway line. The cottage has ample secure parking for between 2 to 4 cars, depending on size, but not for caravans or camping cars.  Cycles and motor bikes can also be left in safety. The holiday cottage is suitable for between 2 - 4 adults, there are two bedrooms and two bathrooms.  An additional bedroom and bathroom, adjacent to the cottage, can be included in the vacation rental.  The cottage kitchen is equipped for people who like to cook and eating on the terrace is a real pleasure.  Alternatively we can provide dinners that we have prepared for you to eat either in the cottage or on the terrace or you can join the guests in our bed and breakfast for dinner, on nights when we cook, see our dinner details.  Breakfasts are provided which include bread, a selection of homemade jams, fruit, yoghourt as well as savoury items such as cheese, ham or smoked salmon.   Buying food and wine, especially on vacation, is one of life's great pleasures, perhaps at the farm or the chateau or from a market, ideal for a picnic or a meal.  Each day there is a market nearby and on most days a choice of markets.  For example, there is a small market in Saint Emilion on a Sunday and also a large market on the same day at Libourne close to Saint Emilion.  The Gironde is an area rich in markets, with markets in the nearby towns of  Branne, Rauzan, Sauveterre la Guyenne, Creon, Targon and Castillon la Bataille.  There are food and general markets in Bordeaux as well as a ‘flea market’ and a special organic market in Bordeaux on a Saturday. Saint Emilion is only 15 minutes by car from the cottage and the picturesque villages of the Gironde are close by.  A visit to the beautiful city of Bordeaux is essential and within easy reach.  A day trip to the coastal towns of Arcachon, Lacanau for surfing and Gujan Mestras for oysters straight from the sea is very tempting as is the climb to the top of the Dune du Pyla which is the largest natural sand dune in Europe. There is a large quiet garden for you to enjoy and perhaps observe the red squirrels or the birds of prey overhead.  You may hear the woodpecker or see the hoopoes in summer.  Ocasionally in the early morning you may also be fortunate enough to see deer in the garden.  Horse riding can be organised with a local stable which specialises in rides through the vineyards.
